Blues make winning start
- Date: July 3, 2022
The gusty wind tried to blow the cobwebs away but 90 minutes against a dogged Newmarket side was exactly the opening game the lads needed.
The ring rust was beginning to loosen up. The lads started popping the ball about and getting into dangerous areas.
The lads showed that they were starting to enjoy possession. The best of the chances fell to Craig Hutchinson looking to add another, a trio of quick fire efforts were denied by saves/blocks to ensure that the teams were level at the much welcomed break.
The second Thornaby goal midway through the the second peroid was a fine team effort. Quick link up play with Steve Roberts at the heart of it resulted in the recent signing from Guisborough being freed down the right. Roberts then fired the cross low and square for Alex Hutchinson to prod home from close range. 2-1.
A clever flick on the edge of the box from Craig Hutchinson but Joe Pickett through on goal and he forced the ball home at the second time of asking after the keeper denied the attacker the first time. 3-1.
Back to the training pitch it is, then the preseason games continue with Redcar Town at Teesdale Park on Friday evening!
